Want to go to Mexico?

Engage is on its summer break, but that doesn’t mean there’s nothing going on. The big thing we want to make sure you know about is the mission trip that Engage is partnering with Brookwood Church on in August. As we announced at the last Engage, our long-term goal is to work with Brookwood to impact college students in the African nation of Liberia, beginning in 2010. But we wanted an opportunity sooner, and Brookwood has offered us some spots on a trip they’re taking to Mexico in the first week of August. Here’s the info, courtesy of Jose Alfaro:

First, I know that going to Liberia next Spring seems like a long time away.  So here is the first opportunity to join us in our mission efforts.  Engage and Brookwood did not want you to have to wait that long to get involved.  Therefore we are making available a trip to Mexico in August.  This trip will go to the outskirts of the city of Monclova in the state of Coahuila, about 1.5 hours outside of Monterrey. It is an amazing place of natural beauty with high cliffs and badlands spread all around.  We will be helping a family build a home (think Habitat for Humanity type of ministry) and also helping a congregation build their new church.  This congregation is amazing; already they have outgrown their little sanctuary which was in a building that someone let them borrow and held around 60 people. They also pay in full the salary of the pastor and the rent for the parsonage.  So trust me, they are trying to help themselves, and we can really help them do that on this trip.
The trip will be August 1st – 8th and it will cost around $1500 (depending on airfare). This is a first-come, first-serve trip and we can only take around 20 people.  Already we have several signed up so please pray about it and let us know as soon as possible if you want to go with us!

If you want more info on the trip, email Jose and he’ll contact you.
